Shark Tagging with a Twist: Mote Aquarium to Use Microsoft TAGs

Mote’s been tagging animals for decades to learn more about them. Starting this month, we’re using new kinds of “TAGs” developed by Microsoft to help our visitors and Sarasota area residents learn more about us.

 
Beach Conditions Report™ Adds New Photo Capabilities in Sarasota and Manatee Counties

Mote Marine Laboratory is enhancing its Beach Conditions Report™ in Sarasota and Manatee counties with photos thanks to new smartphone Droids provided by Verizon. The Droids will allow Mote’s beach observers to include snapshots of current conditions on beaches with every report.

Three de-oiled sea turtles rehabbed at Mote released in Levy County

Three sea turtles rescued from oily waters near Louisiana and given follow-up care at Mote Marine Laboratory were released today, Aug. 18, in oil-free waters near Cedar Key in Levy County, Fla. These turtles were part of a group of 23 released today by federal, state and partner biologists after being rescued and rehabilitated from the effects of the Deepwater Horizon oil spill. This group is the first to be rehabbed and released after direct contact with oil from this spill.
