Mote Video in Finals for Tourism Award

“If you make contact with jellyfish within an hour of eating peanut butter, they will die instantly.”  Wait a minute… that's not true!

That silly factoid is one of many “busted” in a comedic video from Mote Marine Laboratory that recently made the finals for the 14th Annual Flagler Awards from VISIT FLORIDA.

The Flagler Awards, named for Henry Flagler, were established in 2000 to recognize outstanding tourism marketing in Florida. The awards honor individuals and organizations that help maintain and improve Florida’s position as one of the world’s most popular travel destinations. Entries receive scores from a panel of judges who assess the creativity, innovation, production quality and effectiveness of projects in each category, along with Best of Show at multiple budget levels.

Mote was nominated in the Social Media Marketing category for the video “Fish Tales” created with the Lab’s advertising and marketing firm Paradise, based in St. Petersburg. The video, which spouts elaborately wrong information about marine animals and then cheekily corrects it, makes the point that conservation begins with education.

Mote is a world-class marine science institution dedicated to informal science education to enhance ocean literacy among the public. Mote’s public Aquarium, open 365 days per year in Sarasota, supports Florida tourism by hosting more than 350,000 visitors annually, including many international guests. Learn more at: www.mote.org. The Flagler Awards will be presented during the Chairman’s dinner on Monday, Sept. 22 during the 47th Annual Governor’s Conference on Tourism at the Boca Raton Resort and Club, Boca Raton. All finalists, together with Best of Show winners, will be recognized during the conference..
