Seasons of the Sea: Have you ever wondered if ocean animals go on vacation? They do! Join us this month to learn how, why, and when sharks and marine mammals travel around our oceans, as well as how some animals like corals change their behavior during different parts of the year.
- April 9 - Circling Sharks
- April 13 - Migrating Mammals
- April 23 - Coral’s Summer Spectacle
We Are Family: Just as we have families up here on land, ocean animals also have relatives that share common characteristics with them. Come discover the connection between manatees and elephants, octopuses and oysters, or to celebrate our own Mote family member - founder Dr. Eugenie Clark (“The Shark Lady”) - on what would have been her 100th birthday!
- May 4 - The Shark Lady
- May 11 - Close Cousins (manatees/elephants)
- May 21 - Uncle Octopus/Aunt Oyster
Ocean Motion: Whether microscopic or as big as a whale, most ocean animals must move around as they search for food, a home, or friends! Move along with us as we learn about the bird-like gliding swim of stingrays and the unpredictable movement of jellies and plankton.
- June 11 - Cool Cruisers
- June 25 - Drifting and Darting
Sharkapalooza: Summertime is FIN-tastic, and what better way to celebrate this season than by highlighting Mote’s JAW-some mascot - the shark! We’ll feature sharks from all around the world and discover the amazing senses that help them navigate their environment.
- July 23 - Sense-ational Sharks
- July 30 - Wide World of Sharks
Dinosaurs of the Deep: Did you know that many of today’s ocean animals share characteristics with their prehistoric ancestors? Or that sea turtles once had shells with holes in them?! Travel back in time with us as we study the adaptations that allowed these animals to thrive in oceans of the past.
- August 6 - Turtles through Time
- August 20 - Living Fossils
