World Oceans Week: Coral 101 with Mote’s Coral Scientists

 Dive into coral conservation with Mote! Meet real coral scientists, explore reef research techniques, treat a “diseased coral,” and create your own coral reef postcard. Let’s bring color back to our reefs!

Coral 101

Table setup with coral skeletons and other materials for guests to learn more about corals and have a chance to talk more with Mote’s Coral Health and Disease Program’s Researchers.

Coral Surveys

Learn how Mote Scientists survey coral reefs! Learn and practice coral species identification and use a transect on “the reef” to measure healthy coral cover.

Coral Diseases & Treatments

Learn about Mote’s Coral Health and Disease Program’s research testing new treatments for coral diseases!  Guests will get to “treat” a “diseased coral” to actively learn how we apply treatments. Table will also have an ipad/screen with rotating photos/videos of our treatment research.

Bring Color Back to the Reef (Coral Art Corner)

Learn about coral bleaching. Kids can design their own take-home reef postcards.
