Girls interested in science — especially sharks, skates and rays — are invited to a free meeting of the Gills Club from 1:00-2:30 p.m. on Saturday, December 16th at Mote Marine Laboratory. The meeting includes hands-on activities based on current research and the introduction of a researcher.
Mote is partnering with Atlantic White Shark Conservancy, which created the Gills Club, to bring science to more girls in our community. The Gills Club is geared toward girls ages 6-13, and families are also welcome.
Our December meeting is all about The Art of Sharks. Gills will explore various shark adaptations such as texture, buoyancy, reflection and patterns and learn how those same natural characteristics are highlighted throughout the art world. They will use what they learn to create some shark inspired eco-friendly holiday decorations and gifts to share with family and friends.
Participation in the Gills Club events is free but does not cover visiting Mote Aquarium. RSVP is required for all meetings of the Gills Club and children must be accompanied by an adult. Space is limited and registration is taken on a first come, first serve basis and will close the Friday before the event at 5:00 p.m. (or sooner if we reach maximum capacity).
Please contact firstname.lastname@example.org if you have any questions or to cancel your reservation.
We’re proud to announce that we’ve exceeded our goal! But we’re not stopping there. Fundraising continues until our annual black-tie gala, Oceanic Evening on October 29, 2016.
