THIS MEETING HAS BEEN CANCELLED DUE TO HURRICANE IRMA.
OUR NEXT MEETING WILL BE HELD ON OCTOBER 14TH.
Girls interested in science — especially sharks, skates and rays — are invited to a free meeting of the Gills Club from 1:00-2:30 p.m. on Saturday, September 16th at Mote Marine Laboratory. The meeting includes hands-on activities based on current research and the introduction of a researcher.
Mote is partnering with Atlantic White Shark Conservancy, which created the Gills Club, to bring science to more girls in our community. The Gills Club is geared toward girls ages 6-13, and families are also welcome.
This month’s meeting explores the unique order of sharks known as the Orectolobiformes... in other words, the Carpet Sharks! Gills will learn about these seemingly lazy sharks and their amazing skills as masters of disguise! Gills will study carpet shark skin patterns, search for hidden sharks on a “reef”, investigate how shark gills work and learn all about what makes carpet sharks so special. They will even design a unique carpet shark of their own!
Participation in the Gills Club events is free but does not cover visiting Mote Aquarium. RSVP is required for all meetings of the Gills Club and children must be accompanied by an adult. Space is limited and registration is taken on a first come, first serve basis and will close the Friday before the event at 5:00 p.m. (or sooner if we reach maximum capacity).
Please contact email@example.com if you have any questions or to cancel your reservation.
We’re proud to announce that we’ve exceeded our goal! But we’re not stopping there. Fundraising continues until our annual black-tie gala, Oceanic Evening on October 29, 2016.
