This whale was found beached on Anna Maria Island. It was badly scraped up from the stranding event. It was brought to Mote's Dolphin and Whale Hospital, where it was found to be suffering from what appeared to be pulmonary edema. Treatment was attempted, but the whale died shortly after arrival.
Necropsy of this whale revealed bilateral pulmonary edema and severe constipation with severe dehydration. There were also a large number of parasites found in the first two stomachs, but very little evidence that the whale had eaten in the last week or so.
