12/09/2020 This subadult Loggerhead sea turtle was found floating around Rod and Reel Pier on Anna Maria Island, FL. Before being transported to Mote's Sea Turtle Hospital it was deemed "Canes" by the people who called our Strandings team. Canes presents with what appears to be mild Red Tide symptoms. Canes will be given fluids regularly until defecating and eating regularly.
12/13/2020 Canes ate food for the first time today!
12/20/2020 Canes continues to do well. Seems to be almost done defecating undigested crab claws and shells.
01/11/2021 Canes was moved upstairs into one of the dolphin hospital rehabilitation pools for more room, deeper diving, and lowering water temperature. All in preparation to be medically cleared for release soon.
01/29/2021 Canes has been medically cleared for release next week. Her water temperature is being slowly dcresed each day to coincide with the temperature of the Gulf of Mexico.
