09/25/2021 Turtle was observed uncoordinated and struggling at the surface of the water at the mouth of Gasparilla Sound in Charlotte County. Animal was transported to Mote for rehabilitation. Upon arrival, Cayenne should signs of Red Tide toxicity. She had blood drawn, was given subcutaneous fluids, and had to be dry-docked overnight due to uncoordination.
09/26/2021 Cayenne was given subcutaneous fluids and passed her swim test this morning. She is now in a rehab. pool in very low water. She foraged seafood today when offered.
09/30/2021 Cayenne is active and is eating all food items offered. She is defecating regularly and is passing pieces of ingested crab shells and tunicates. The depth of her tank was increased a couple inches today.
10/15/2021 Cayenne was medically cleared for release. She was released off Sanibel Island by Mote staff today!
