08/27/2021 Turtle was observed struggling to breathe at the surface of the water in the Gull of Mexico off Venice in Sarasota County. Animal was picked up by law enforcement and transported by boat to Mote. Exam findings revealed that animal is in good body condition with no obvious signs of injury, but is displaying neurological signs consistent with Red Tide toxicity (brevetoxicosis). "Curry" was given subcutaneous fluids and was dry-docked overnight due to neurologic issues.
08/28/2021 Curry was moved to a shallow rehab. pool since neuroloic issues are already improving. He foraged sea food immediately when offered. Will continue to give daily subcutaneous fluids until Red Tide toxicity resoles completely.
09/04/2021 Turtle's tank was increased to full depth. Curry is active, swimming normally, and eating all food offered.
09/09/2021 Curry was medically cleared for release. He was transported by Mote staff to Naples and was released!
