Diego

02/22/2021  Turtle was found washed ashore in Brevard County and was transported to the Brevard Zoo Sea Turtle Healing Center.  Upon exam, it was noted that "Diego" had a few small fibropapilloma tumors, has buoyancy issues, and has very low blood glucose levels.  Was started on subcutaneous fluid therapy and injectable antibiotics.

02/25/2021  Due to shortage of space at the sea turtle rehab. facilities on Florida's east coast, Diego was transported to Mote for continued care.  Diego no longer has buoyancy issues and is able to rest on the bottom of the tank.  He is still very lethargic though and shows no interest in eating.

03/02/2021  Diego is still lethargic and shows no interest in eating.  Continues to receive injectable antibiotics and subcutaneous fluids.

04/10/2021  Diego is doing well.  He is active and in a tank at full depth.  He has started eating on his own and will now eat all squid, shrimp, or lettuce that is offered.

04/22/2021  Diego had laser surgery today to remove the fibropapilloma tumors.

05/01/2021  Diego is recovering very well post-surgery.  He is eating great and is very active.

05/29/2021  Pap surgical sites have all healed, but animal is still anemic despite being given oral iron supplements.

06/04/2021  Blood work shows that anemia has resolved!

06/07/2021  Molasses, Looe, Howe, Raja, Kimbe, Brewer, Diego, and Bumble were all released by Mote staff at the beach in Ormond-by-the-Sea on Florida's east coast.
