Euthanized
09/16/2018 Turtle was found floating approximately 15 miles offshore of Venice, Sarasota County. Animal is likely affected by Red Tide toxicity. Blood work indicates an elevated white blood cell count, dehydration, and some metabolic issues. Injectable antibiotics and subcutaneous fluids will be given until animal starts to improve. Animal was too weak to be put in water, so was dry-docked overnight.
09/19/2018 FoxSea Lady's behavior is slightly improved and is now in shallow water. Did try to bite at some food this morning, but didn't eat anything.
10/04/2018 Blood work is starting to improve so antibiotics were discontinued. Turtle is still very lethargic and is not eating on her own. She continues to receive fluids and is being force fed a small amount of fish and squid.
11/16/2018 FoxSea Lady is still lethargic and barely forages any food her own. She is being force fed various types of seafood on a daily basis to help provide nutrition. Concerned about red tide toxins affecting her salt gland and vision. Giving steroids to possibly decrease any swelling of salt gland.
12/27/2018 Turtle has gained some weight, but will still not eat anything on her own. She is very lethargic and reluctant to move even when being restrained for exams.
01/21/2019 FoxSea has started showing interest in crab and has occasionally bit at it.
02/05/2019 Turtle was moved to a much larger, deeper outdoor rehab. pool to see if that would encourage any improvement in feeding behaviors.
02/21/2019 Due to lack of improvement or willingness to eat, turtle was humanely euthanized.
