Euthanized
02/10/2023 Turtle was found floating and had evidence of a boat strike on its carapace. It was transported to Mote for rehabilitation. "Jellybean" had blood work and x-rays done. Blood work parameters did not look too bad considering the injury. Jellybean does hav a few small fibropapilloma tumors present. Turtle was given subcutaneous fluids and injectable antibiotics. Failled in-water test, so was dry-docked for the night.
02/11/2023 Turtle failed in-water swim test, so was dry-docked again. Suspect red tide toxicity due to animal's lethargic behavior and inability to lift head out of shallow water to take clear breaths.
02/12/2023 Jellybean finally passed his swim test and is in a rehab. pool in very shallow water. He ate squid when offered.
02/16/2023 Jellybean is slowly becoming more active. He is eating full diet offered and seems to prefer squid. Continues to receive injectable antibiotics every couple days due to boat strike injury.
02/25/2023 Because Jellybean is eating well, he is now receiving oral antibiotics instead of injectable to minimize stress from handling.
03/10/2023 Jellybean was moved to a larger rehab. tank today, so he has more room to swim. He is sometimes picky with what types of seafood he eats, but continues to eat daily. He is no longer on antibiotics due to improved blood values.
03/25/2023 Jellybean is still a picky eater. Doesn't seem to be using back flippers well, so is still in shallow water.
03/31/2023 Turtle was euthanized due to poor prognosis. Showed signs of worsening condition including sepsis and bone opacity at site of boat strike. Also unable to use hind flippers at all.
