Kelce

02/12/2023  Turtle was found washed up on the beach near Silver Sands Gulf Beach Resort in Mantee County.  Animal was trasnported to Mote for assesment and rehabilitation.  Animal is exhibiting signs of likely red tide toxicity.  Was given subcutaneous fluids and was dry-docked overnight due to lethargy and neurologic issues.

02/14/2023  "Kelce" was moved to a rehab. pool in very shallow water.  Turtle is still showing signs of lethargy and red tide toxicity, but did eat seafood when offered.

02/16/2023  Kelce is still very lethargic and is in very shallow water until he is more active.  Turtle is eating capelin, shrimp, and squid well off feeding tongs.  Defecated yesterday and there were many crushed crab shells present, indicating the animal had been eating well.

02/22/2023  Kelce is still lethargic, so the depth of his tank is being increased slowly every couple days.  He continues eat an increasingly higher amount of seafood daily.

02/25/2023  Due to an increased white blood cell count, Kelce is now receiving oral antibiotics.  He is very active, is eating well, and is now in deeper water.

03/10/2023  Kelce starting to be picky with his food, but is still eating daily and is swimming normally.

03/25/2023  Kelce's appetite has improved and he continues to do well.

03/31/2023  Kelce was released at Fred Howard Park in Tarpon Springs because red tide cell counts remain lower up there.
