Luke Seawalker

12/31/2020  Turtle was found stranded on the beach near the Hilton in Melbourne, Brevard County.  Animal was trasported to Brevard Zoo Sea Turtle Healing Center.  Upon initial exam, it was noted that "Luke Seawalker" was missing part of the right, front filipper (old, healed injury), had buoancy issues, was lethargic, and had numerous fibpropapilloma tumors.  Was started on two different injectable antibiotics.

02/25/2021  Due to shortage of space at the sea turtle rehab. facilities on Florida's east coast, Luke Seawalker was transported to Mote for continued care.  Turtle is already eating all food offered.  Buoyancy issues continue though, so keeping in shallow water for the time being.

02/26/2021  Blood work shows that turle still has a very elevated white blood cell count so will switch to a different oral antibiotic since eating well.

03/02/2021  Luke was observed resting flat on the bottom of the tank instead of floating, so water level was raised a few inches.

03/29/2021  Large fibropapilloma tumors continued to grow and ulcerte and there was little salvageable healthy tissue on animal's inguinal region.  The decision was made to humanely euthanize animal due to poor prognosis.
