Nutella

01/02/2023  Turtle was found floating behind a house off of Longboat Key and had evidence of a recent vessel strike to its carapace.  Citizens netted it and called Mote.  "Nutella" was transported to Mote for triage and rehabilitation.  There is evidence of what is likely a recent boat strike to the animal's carapace.  Blood work and x-rays were done, and animal was given subcutaneous fluids, injectable antibiotics, and an anti-inflammatory injection.  Nutella is in a rehab. pool in very shallow water so he doesn't have to struggle to surface for air.

01/03/2023  Nutella ate some bites of seafood and lettuce when offered.

01/06/2023  Nutella was transported to veterinary surgical center of Sarasota for a CT scan.

01/07/2023  Nutella continues to eat a small amount of seafood daily.  He also seems to really like romaine lettuce at times.  Continues to receive subcutaneous fluids, injectable antibiotics, and anti-inflammatories.

01/13/2023  Nutella underwent a medical procedure today to remove a large piece of his carapace that was penetrating his body cavity due to the boat strike.  He continues to eat well.

01/28/2023  Nutella is slowly eating more seafood offered.  The water level in his tank is still very shallow until he has healed more.

02/09/2023  Turtle's blood values are improved, so all injectable antibiotics have been discontinued.

02/18/2023  Nutella is much more active now, and the depth of her tank is being slowly increased.  She continues to eat well and finish her full diet almost everyday.  Her wound is healing, but will take quite awhile due to the carpace being fractured.

03/10/2023  Nutella continues to improve.  She is active in deep water and eating well.  Her wound is granulating in nicely.

03/31/2023  Nutella was released at Fred Howard Park in Tarpon Springs because red tide cell counts remain lower up there.
