04/21/2020 Olaf was found floating in the boat basin of Marine Max right here by Mote Marine Laboratory. Captain Kenny brought Olaf right to the Sea Turtle Hospital for rehabilitation. Olaf presented with many areas on the turtle's carapace, plastron, flippers, and face that were deteriorating and had necrotic (dying/dead) tissue. Olaf was weighed, had blood work done, given fluids, started on injectable antibiotics, and placed in low water in a rehabilitation pool.
04/28/2020 Olaf had a first tube feeding today.
05/06/2020 Olaf foraged food for the first time today!
05/11/2020 Olaf has been doing great! Olaf's water level has been raised to full level.
06/11/2020 Olaf continues to do well and has been put on an oral antibiotic. Olaf's shell and skin still have some more healing to do.
06/24/2020 Olaf has been taken off the oral antibiotic. Continuing to heal well.
07/09/2020 Olaf continues to heal well. There was pieces of dead bones removed from the carapace today. This is a good thing because it means the shell is healing!
