10/25/2021 Turtle was observed rolling in the surf off the Oak Avenue beach entrance on Anna Maria Island. Was rescued and transported to Mote for rehab. Exam findings indicate likely red tide toxicity. Animal is in good body condition but is exhibiting neurologic deficits. Animal, deemed "Old Bay," was given fluids, vitamin injections, and was dry-docked for the night due to neurologic issues.
10/26/2021 "Old Bay" was removed to a rehab. pool in shallow water. Mashed food when offered, but did not consume anything.
10/28/2021 Turtle is still not interested in eating. She is defecating regularly though and is passing pieces of shells.
11/1/2021 Old Bay finally ate today! Seems to prefer squid.
11/03/2021 Turtle's appetite continues to improve. Old Bay is more active, and water depth is slowly being increased.
11/13/2021 Old Bay is eating well and foraging for all prey items offered. His tank is at full depth. He is being given oral antibiotics hidden in his prey items daily due to an elevated white blood cell count.
12/01/2021 Old Bay continues to eat well and swim normally. Blood work is improved, so antibiotics were discontinued.
12/10/2021 Old Bay was released at Lido Beach!
