01/31/2022 Turtle was found near City Pier on Anna Maria Island. Animal has a fresh fracture to the skull and carapace, possibly due to a boat strike, and fibropapilloma tumors. Was transported to Mote for rehab. Animal had blood work done, was weighed, and was given subcutaneous fluids and injectable steroids. Pierre was dry-docked for the night due to severe head injury.
02/04/2022 Pierre is in a very shallow rehab. pool. Has shown minimal interest in eating. Continues to receive subcutaneous fluids and injecatble antibioitcs, anti-inflammatories, and steroids.
02/08/2022 Pierre ate squid today!
02/11/2022 Pierre was trasported to Veterinary Surgery Center of Sarasota for a CT scan today to see if the trauma to his head affected the brain casing. Results are pending.
02/18/2022 CT results show no evidence of trauma to the brain case or presence of internal tumors. Pierre is eating well. He is sharing a tank with Alfalfa, which has been keeping him active.
02/27/2022 Pierre was anesthetized for fibropapilloma tumor removal surgery today. There were numerous tumors removed including ones on his eyes.
03/09/2022 Pierre is recovering well following surgery. His is swimming normally and is eating well.
04/01/2022 Pierre is active and gaining weight. The head injury is healing well and blood values have improved, so oral antibiotics were discontinued.
05/07/2022 Turtle is doing well, except he will need an additional surgery to treat a possible tumor or possible area of trauma secondary to the head injury on his left eye.
05/31/2022 Pierre had a second surgery today to remove the tumor on his eye.
06/18/2022 Pierre is eating well, gaining weight, and healing well from his last surgery.
07/05/2022 Pierre was released off Anna Maria Island by Mote staff today!
