2/12/2016 Turtle stranded offshore of Longboat Key, Sarasota County. The left front flipper is missing but healed. Heavy load of small barnacles on carapace. Turtle is having trouble breathing in water so is dry docked for now.
2/15/2016 Turtle is now able to breathe in water and was placed in a small, shallow tank.
2/18/2016 Turtle was moved to a larger tank but still in shallow water. Turtle is eating well and foraging.
3/31/2016 Rigley is now in full water level and swimming strongly. Eating well, so switched to oral antibiotics and supplements. Carapace continuing to heal from barnacle damage.
4/16/2016 Rigley continues to gain weight and is still receiving oral antibiotics and an antifungal daily
5/12/2016 Animal is now off all medications
5/23/2016 Reef was moved into a tank with Rigley in order to prepare Timothy for release.
6/13/2016 Rigley was released by Mote staff and interns at the north end of Longboat Key this afternoon
Throughout the month of March, Mote Aquarium experiences high daily visitation volume with many timed ticketed entry slots selling out. Guests are highly encouraged to purchase tickets in advance in order to guarantee entry.
Mote Aquarium is open seven days a week at our normal hours, 9:30 a.m.–5 p.m. We hope to SEA you soon!
