Rummi

02/13/2023  Turtle was found washed up on the beach near Rum Bay Restaurant at Palm Island Resort on Don Pedro Island in Charlotte County.  Animal was transported to Mote for assesment and rehabilitation.  Animal is exhibiting signs of likely red tide toxicity.  She was given subcutaneous fluids and was dry-docked overnight due to lethargy and neurologic issues.

02/14/2023  "Rummi" (formerly "Juju") was moved to a rehab. pool in very shallow water.  Turtle is still showing signs of lethargy and red tide toxicity, but did eat seafood when offered.

02/16/2023   Rummi is becoming more active each day.  Her water level is slowly being increased daily.  Turtle is eating capelin, shrimp, and squid well off feeding tongs and has started to forage on her own.  Defecated yesterday and there were many crushed crab shells present, indicating the animal had been eating well.

02/22/2023   Rummi continues to improve.  Her tank is now half full.  She continues to eat more seafood offered daily.

02/25/2023  Rummi's tank is now at full depth.  She is much more active and is eating all seafood offered daily.

03/04/2023  Rummi is very active and eating well.  Her blood work values are within normal range.

03/09/2023  FWC transported and released Rummi at Fred Howard Park in Tarpon Springs.
