08/26/2018 Turtle was found floating near Bean Point, Manatee County. Animal most likely stranded due to red Tide toxicity. Blood work indicates that animal has a septicemic infection. Animal was started on two injectable anitbiotics and will be given subcutaneous fluis to flush out the toxins until eating. Turtle is too weak to be put in water, so was dry-docked overnight.
08/28/2018 Animal is slowly starting to act more normal and was placed in shallow water today.
09/02/2018 Spencer ate today.
10/08/2018 Blood work indicates infection is resolving, so antibiotics were discontinued. Spencer continues to eat well and is swimming normally. Water level in tank is now at full depth.
11/16/2018 Spencer is eating great and is very active. Blood work reveals that turtle is still anemic, so will continue to monitor blood values every couple weeks until normal.
11/26/2018 Spencer was released by Mote staff near Tarpon Springs!
