This turtle was found on the beach on Lido Key. It was pushed back out several times, but was washed back ashore. It was brought to the Sea Turtle Rehabilitation Hospital for rehabilitation. It is showing neurological signs that suggest possible red tide toxicity. 8/14 Turtle's neurologic symptoms are subsiding, but not interested in eating, yet. Tube feeding until appetite returns. 8/22 Still not eating on its own, but doing fairly well otherwise. 9/4 Turtle has indications of pancreatitis and is still not eating, but has almost no remaining neurological signs. Pancreatitis being treated with antibiotics. 9/9 Turtle is still being force-fed twice daily and seems to be doing fairly well. 9/17 Some improvement in the pancreatitis, but still not eating on its own. 9/23 Turtle is getting very strong, but still refusing to eat. 9/30 Turtle has very high blood glucose from pancreatitis (similar to diabetes) and we have started the turtle on insulin to try to bring the glucose level down. Still not eating but will treat tomorrow for blood flukes that we have seen in most recent cases. 10/7 Insulin is bringing blood glucose down, but still not eating. Hanging in there! 10/17 Blood glucose has stabilized somewhat. An abscess was found in turtle's throat and was debrided this morning. Pharangostomy tube was put into place to make feeding easier on the turtle. 10/31 Turtle continued to have glucose issues and still refused to eat. Turtle died this afternoon. Will do a necropsy tomorrow morning to determine cause of death.
