05/22/2016 Animal stranded in Boca Grande and was transported to Mote. There are some minor, old wounds on head and carapace. Animal is covered in epibiota (barnacles and algae) and is very lethargic. Will give subcutaneous fluids daily until eating.
05/23/2016 "Tucker B" does have some interest in eating and is taking and mashing capelin, shrimp, and squid. Ran lab work today and started animal on injectable antibiotics and calcium supplementation. Will keep water level low until animal is more active.
05/29/2016 Tucker is not currently eating so continuing fluid therapy and force fed a few fish today
05/31/2016 Tucker started eating on his own!
06/23/2016 Tucker B. continues to improve and is foraging for all food offered. Water level was raised to full. Blood work is improved so antibiotics were discontinued.
09/02/2016 Tucker B. is steadily increasing in weight. Was given a dewormer to treat any problematic parasites. Will recheck blood in two weeks and hopefully medically clear for release.
09/16/2016 Tucker B. was released at Lido Beach by Mote staff and interns! There was quite a crowd to see him/her go including the man who originally found him!
We’re proud to announce that we’ve exceeded our goal! But we’re not stopping there. Fundraising continues until our annual black-tie gala, Oceanic Evening on October 29, 2016.
