Mote Coral Research Featured in NY Times Science Section

Worldwide, coral species are facing severe threats from warming ocean waters, ocean acidification, pollution and disease. Many reefs are in significant decline — with losses of up to 90 percent for some species. Mote Marine Laboratory scientists are developing exciting new methods for restoring Caribbean species that were recently listed as threatened by the federal government: lobed star coral (Orbicella annularis), mountainous star coral (Orbicella faveolata), bouldar star coral (Orbicella franksi). This work was featured in a New York Times "Science Times" article that appeared on Nov. 23.
