Mote receives $500,000 grant from Microsoft at UTC Grand Opening

Microsoft celebrated its grand opening at University Town Center (UTC) on June 11 by showing its support for local nonprofits — including presenting Mote Marine Laboratory with a $500,000 check worth of computer software.

Microsoft donated nearly $1 million in technology to 6 local nonprofits at the grand opening and Mote received the largest pledge by $340,000.

"Thanks to the generosity of Microsoft, this incredible source of funding for our organization will contribute to our mission of transferring and translating our world-class research,” said Dr. Michael P. Crosby, President & CEO of Mote.

Joe Belfiore, Vice President, PC-Table-Phone at Microsoft, presented the oversized check to Mote's Trustee, Nigel Mould, at the store’s grand opening.

Thanks to over 60 Mote supporters who gathered at the grand opening, the celebration was unparalleled.

Shortly after the curtain dropped in front of the store, the public enjoyed a first look at Microsoft’s new store at UTC, 140 University Town Center Drive, Sarasota, Fla. while listening to a live DJ and receiving door prizes.
