Mote Marine Laboratory extends a huge thank you to all who came out to celebrate the first Shark Days at Mote: Real Sharks, Real Science. This week of sharky-y education wrapped up with the Fins & Fun family festival on Saturday, Aug. 15.

Mote has been enthralled with shark research and conservation since it opened its doors in 1955. This fascination and passion for shark conservation stems from Mote's founding Director, Dr. Eugenie Clark, who earned the nickname "The Shark Lady." Clark recently passed away, but her vision and passion for shark conservation and marine science live on at Mote, 60 years later.

Today, Mote boasts the only Center for Shark Research recognized by U.S. Congress. Mote scientists are dedicated to studying the biology, ecology and conservation of sharks.

Last week, Mote celebrated Shark Days at Mote: Real Sharks, Real Science to share its passion and knowledge that its scientists have gained through 60 years of world class research on these incredible animals.
