Cassie Wegeng joined Mote Marine Laboratory in April 2019. She has background in animal care and training (from dolphins and cheetahs to raptors and reptiles), conservation focused outreach education and event & volunteer management for other AZA accredited and non-profit organizations. After living in the Caribbean for two years post college graduation, living inland got a little "dry", so she and her husband made the move to Florida in 2017 and have very much enjoyed living life back on the water. They enjoy all things active and outdoor, especially if they can bring their husky mix, Maggie!
Cassie is thrilled to work with the wonderful core of volunteers at Mote, and got to know many of them well while leading educational boat and kayak trips through Sarasota Bay from Mote's campus in 2018. From behind the scenes animal care and rescue, research assistants, aquarium guides and beyond, Mote's mission is fulfilled and visitors are inspired everyday through the passion and dedication of our volunteers. She couldn't ask for better teammates in the unending work toward ocean conservation and stewardship.
B.S. in Psychology, minor in Oceanography & Coastal Sciences from Louisiana State University (2010)
