Realize the good you can do by simply giving your time. You can be a part of something meaningful and help support one of the world's most important marine research organizations by becoming a Volunteer at Mote Marine Laboratory and Aquarium.
We offer a variety of volunteer positions that enable you to utilize your current skills to support a good cause. You can also train to become a guide in The Aquarium and help educate our visitors about our marine environment.
Our Volunteer corps is 1,600-strong and offer the opportunity to get involved with peers who share your love of the sea and its creatures.
Cashiers: Greet arrivals, collect admission and set visitors on the path to a pleasant tour.
Greeters: Welcome visitors, give directions and collect tickets.
Membership Specialists: Encourage visitors to support research and gain other benefits by becoming members.
Gift Shops: Display & sell merchandise in our ever-popular gift shops.
Guides: Help visitors explore the marine scene in each exhibit and explain how the exhibits relate to Mote research.
Mote Mobile Exhibit: Travel with Mote's "Aquarium on wheels" to explain marine life and Mote's research programs to the public (on call basis/usually weekends).
Sarasota Bay Explorer Tour Guides: Assist marine biologists with educational boat tours by gathering and explaining local flora and fauna.
Animal Husbandry Volunteer: Assist Mote staff Aquarium Biologists with the care of the animals and the maintenance of their exhibits.
Volunteer Scuba Diver: Assist Mote staff with underwater exhibit maintenance and research. Requirements: Rescue Diver certification, First Aid and CPR certification, pass Diving Medical exam, pass swim test, and other requirements.
Education Assistants: Aid staff in teaching pre-designed classroom & field programs for student groups from age two-adult.
Fisheries Assistants: Assemble fin-clipping kits, assist with fish maintenance, data entry and occasional field work as needed.
Office Assistants: Assist with clerical duties such as mailings and data entry. Help develop presentations (PowerPoint), database (Access) and web materials.
Communications: Assist with data entry, marketing, surveys, web support and photographic database. Help track news about Mote in local and national media.
