Mote offers a variety of homeschool programs at our Summerland Key and Key Largo facilities.  

Keys Homeschool Days 

**The program costs below are starting prices. Costs may vary based on program needs.

Join us each month for a fun-filled, ocean-themed learning experience led by Mote’s professional marine science educators. Participants will work in teams to develop and implement marine science research projects and get the inside scoop on the exciting research going on at Mote. They’ll work on problem-solving, communication and collaboration skills through STEM based projects while increasing ocean literacy and awareness through experiential learning.

Important Notes: Price for Homeschool Days represents the student plus one chaperone per family (required). ONLY registered participants are allowed to attend Homeschool Days (no younger or older non-registered siblings). Prior to registering, please review our program policies linked below.

Registration for all Keys homeschool programs will open on August 1, 2024.

Homeschool Days at IC2R3 (Summerland Key)

  • When: monthly on Wednesdays from 12:30 to 2:00 PM
  • Ages: 6-12
  • Fee: $20 per child and required parent/guardian chaperone
  • Note: 1 chaperone per 2 students required (chaperones free)

Homeschool Days at Mote’s Key Largo Coral Nursery

  • When: monthly on Mondays from 10:00 to 11:30 AM
  • Ages: 6-12
  • Fee: $20 per child and required parent/guardian chaperone

Homeschool Days Key Largo

Homeschool Advanced Program (Summerland Key)

Mote’s Homeschool Advanced is a semester-long program that meets monthly to dive deeper into the cutting-edge science happening at Mote’s coral restoration lab. Each semester includes an on-going project and the chance to step into the lab alongside Mote scientists. Students will get the opportunity to experience a different component of Coral Restoration each month, from raising coral babies to the aquaculture of algal grazers. This is a drop-off student-only program.

Fall Semester Dates: Sept 11th, Oct 9th, Nov 13th, Dec 11th @ 9:00 – 11:00 AM

Spring Semester Dates: Jan 8th, Feb 12th, March 12th, April 9th @ 9:00 – 11:00 AM

  • Ages: 8-15
  • Fee: $125 per student per semester

Homeschool Advanced Summerland Key

Keys Homeschool Meetups (Summerland Key)

Can’t get enough of Mote Keys homeschool programs? Then join us for our new Homeschool Meetups! In this program, students can meet up with other homeschool families and a Mote educator for beach clean ups, mangrove kayaking trips from the laboratory, and behind-the-scenes tours of Mote’s International Center for Coral Reef Research & Restoration. 

  • When: monthly from 10:00 to 11:30 AM (dates vary)
  • Ages: 6-15
  • Fee: $20 per child and required parent/guardian chaperone
  • Note: 1 chaperone per 2 students required (chaperones free)
