Homeschool Days

Join us for each month for a fun-filled, ocean-themed learning experience led by Mote's professional marine science educators. Participants will work in teams to develop and implement marine science research projects and get the inside scoop on the exciting research going on at Mote. They'll work on problem-solving, communication and collaboration skills through STEM based projects while increasing ocean literacy and awareness through experiential learning.

Important Notes: Price represents the student plus one chaperone per family (required). ONLY registered participants are allowed to attend Homeschool Days (no younger or older non-registered siblings). Prior to registering, please review our program policies linked below.

Homeschool Days at IC2R3 (Summerland Key)
When: 
monthly on Wednesdays from 12:30 to 2:00 PM
Ages: 6-15
Fee: $20 per child and required parent/guardian chaperone
Note: 1 chaperone per 4 kids required (chaperones free)

Ages: 6-15

The following programs are drop-off, student only offerings and take place at our Summerland Key location (IC2R3).

Homeschool Advanced (IC2R3)

Mote’s Homeschool Advanced is a semester-long program that meets monthly to dive deeper into the cutting-edge science happening at Mote’s coral restoration lab. Each semester includes an on-going project and the chance to step into the lab alongside Mote scientists. Students will get the opportunity to experience a different component of Coral Restoration each month, from raising coral babies to the aquaculture of algal grazers. This is a drop-off student only program. 

  • Semester II: Jan 24, Feb 21, March 27, April 24, May 29 @ 9:00 - 11:00 AM

Ages: 8-15
Fee: $125 per student per semester

Homeschool Workshops (IC2R3)

Homeschool Workshops at IC2R3 are multi-day intensive programs for students to engage in a project for a concentrated period of 3-4 days. These are student-only drop off programs. 

Urchins, Crabs & Snails--OH MY! (4-Day Workshop)

Become a Mote scientist! In this three day workshop, students will hypothesize, plan, and construct their very own research project focusing on the role of algal grazers in coral restoration efforts. Students will observe and analyze data to create a student presentation summarizing their project. This workshop includes a snorkel charter to visit the reef.

When: October 10-13th, 2023 from 8:30 AM to 12:30 PM
Ages: 10-15
Fee: $300/student

REEL into Ocean Conservation (A 3-Day Workshop)

Be the voice for our oceans! Students will have the opportunity to create their own film with the marine biology topic of their choosing. This program includes a behind the scenes look at Mote’s Coral Research and Restoration Lab, a mangrove kayaking trip, and an opportunity to submit your student film to an annual competition!

When: February 5-7th, 2024 from 9:30 AM to 12:30 PM
Ages: 8-15
Fee: $200
