The average weight of a cobia is 50 pounds (23 kilograms). On average, they reach lengths of 20-47 inches (50-120 centimeters).

Diet:

Cobia eat eels, mullet, snappers, grunts, pinfish, grunts, croakers, and their favorite, crabs.

Range & Habitat:

Cobia can be found along continental shelves and offshore reefs in the Atlantic Ocean, the Indo-West Pacific and throughout the Gulf of Mexico. They can also be found more inshore inhabiting bays, mangroves and small inlets.

Details:

Cobia are highly adaptable fish, able to survive in environments with low oxygen and high water temperatures. Fairly anti-social, cobia like to travel alone or in small groups. From June to late August, cobia will spawn in nearby bays and estuaries, releasing anywhere from 375,00 to 2 million eggs each time they spawn. According to the International Union for Conservation of Nature’s Red List of Threatened species, cobia are considered Least Concern.
