Size:

Striped hermit crabs grow to about 1.25 inches (3.1 centimeters) long. Their legs can grow up to three inches (7.6 centimeters) long!

These hermit crabs are opportunistic feeders, meaning they eat whatever is available, including sea grasses, plants, dead animals and other organic matter.

Range & Habitat:

In the Atlantic Ocean, striped hermit crabs can be found in bays, mangroves, beaches, mud flats and other coastal habitats.

Details:

Striped hermit crabs get their name from the distinctive brown and white striping on their legs. Their soft bodies can range from dark brown to green in color. These hermits have two claws for retrieving food, a pair of mounted eyes and a large mollusk shell to protect them from predators.
