Mote to provide summer professional development courses for Florida teachers

Mote Marine Laboratory will be offering a series of professional development workshops this summer for licensed Florida teachers. These professional development programs are designed to provide locally relevant marine science content enrichment for grades three through twelve.

Topics to be covered include marine invertebrates, elasmobranchs (sharks, skates and rays), corals, and environmental health and monitoring. Teachers can expect to learn model science inquiry methods and technology integration of strategies with current scientific research, links to state education standards and opportunities for interdisciplinary connections.

Mote is encouraging teachers to apply with a colleague from the same school in order to collaborate on implementation. Due to demand and limited spaces, these classes are expected to be filled to capacity; so early registration is also suggested. Sessions are available July through August 2017.
