Karen Stults

Director of Foundation Relations

Karen Stults, M.Ed., has over twenty-five years of nonprofit fundraising and management experience.  She comes to Mote Marine Laboratory from Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA) where she served as Director of Corporate, Foundation and Government Relations and as Director of Community Engagement. At MICA, she raised significant annual funds for the organization, built the College’s first Office of Community Engagement and launched and managed a small grants program for students, faculty and staff.

Karen has held program development and fundraising management positions with a range of nonprofit organizations including the Center for Community Change, YouthAction Inc., and the Center for Health, Environment and Justice in Washington, DC, and the American Visionary Art Museum in Baltimore, Maryland. Karen grew up in Sarasota and still remembers when Mote was a small laboratory on the south end of Siesta Key. She is excited to be back in Sarasota and working to advance marine research and education at Mote.

Education

M.Ed. in Policy Development and Program Evaluation from Vanderbilt University.

B.A. in Business and Communications from Mercer University.

Certificate in Museum Exhibition Planning and Design from Georgetown University. 

Certificate in Ceramics and Sculpture from Corcoran College of Art and Design
