Meet the Team

Kathryn recently joined Mote as a Communications Coordinator after graduating from George Washington University in December 2023. 

Although initially enrolled at Johns Hopkins University, Kathryn realized her passion for ocean protection, prompting her relocation to Roatan, Honduras, after her freshman year. There, she worked as a PADI Divemaster. In addition, she engaged in monthly maintenance dives for Roatan Marine Park's coral nurseries and participated in research efforts to mitigate the impact of Pterois volitans (Lionfish).

Subsequently, Kathryn moved to the Philippines, where she worked as a research assistant at the Institute for Marine Research. In this capacity, she contributed to data collection, exploring the impact of benthic composition on fish and invertebrate communities, documenting natural and human-induced disturbances to raise awareness of potential reef threats, and studying the influence of temperature, pH, and current on the seasonal and annual variability of coral and fish populations. Kathryn also led efforts to address the Acanthaster planci (Crown-of-Thorns Starfish) outbreak within the local community. Additionally, she freelanced as a PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor at a local resort. 

Upon returning to the United States, Kathryn transferred to George Washington University, where she earned her Bachelor of Science in Communication and Sustainability. Fueled by her enthusiasm for both public relations and marine research, Kathryn is eager to merge her passions to advocate for the ocean on a broader scale. She is thrilled to be part of Mote and contribute to their mission.
