07/22/2024 Turtle was found entangled in a crab pot line and monofilament. Entanglement cause turtle to be tethered to the bottom where she had just enough slack to surface to breathe. A fisherman reported the animal and she was rescued and brought to Mote for rehabilitation. “Ronda” is covered in a large amount of epibiota and has rope and monofilament wrapped around both front flippers and neck. Fishing gear and rope was removed and turtle is now in a shallow rehab. tank. Blood work reveals anemia so started Ronda on weekly iron injections and injectable antibiotics due to entanglement wounds.
08/15/2024 Ronda is very active and eagerly eating all seafood offered. The water level in her tank has been raised to full depth. Blood parameters are improving so injectable antibiotics and iron have been discontinued.
