11/18/2020 This turtle (051) is part of the cold stun even that happens in New England area every year. 051 was brought to the National Marine Life Center for initial care.
11/21/2020 051 was transferred with other turtles to from New England to Florida by a non-profit organization called Turtles Fly Too. 051 is part of the group that came to Mote Marine Laboratory and Aquarium’s Sea Turtle Hospital for rehabilitation, here the turtle was named Blue Spruce.
11/27/2020 Blue Spruce continues to recover slowly, has just begun eating. Blue Spruce is on injectable antibiotics and receiving fluids regularly.
12/15/2020 Blue Spruce is eating great. No longer receiving fluids regularly and seems to be recovering very well.
12/18/2020 Blue Spruce has been moved upstairs into a solo enclosure within one of Mote’s dolphin rehabilitation tanks.
01/17/2021 Blue Spruce was moved down back into the sea turtle hospital enclosure due to bouyancy issues. Blue Spruce has been doing well otherwise.
02/01/2021 Blue Spruce was medically cleared for release but will spend a few days in a dolphin rehabilitation tank to slowly get used to colder water to match the current ocean temperature.
02/08/2021 Blue Spruce, Francis, Catherine, Ruby Sue, and Margo were transported and released by Mote staff on the east coast of Florida off of New Smyrna Beach.
