10/21/2022 Turtle was found floating in Anna Maria Sound off Holmes Beach. Turtle was lethargic and had head twitching and other movements associated with possible red tide toxicity or some other toxicity. Blood work was done and Bean was given subcutaneous fluids to start flushing out any toxins. Turtle will be dry-docked to prevent drowning until neurologic issues improve.
10/23/2022 Bean continues to receive subcutaneous fluids daily until neurologic symptoms resolve. He is now in a rehab. pool in very shallow water. He ate squid today!
10/29/2022 Bean is now on injectable antibiotics and anti-parasites to further address neurologic issues.
11/05/2022 Bean is still lethargic and therefore is still being kept in very shallow water. Turtle is eating well though and defecating normally.
11/19/2022 Bean is eating well and is very active. The depth of his tank was raised to half full. Because he’s eating well, he was switched from an injectable antibiotic to an oral antibiotic.
12/02/2022 Bean’s blood values have improved, so antibiotics were discontinued. His tank is at full depth and he is active and growing.
12/16/2022 Most recent blood work shows an elevation in white blood cell count and a slight drop in hematocrit, so will continue to monitor trends and adjust treatment if necessary. Bean is bright, alert, active, and eating well!
01/14/2023  Bean is active and has a voracious appetite. He is off all medications, but will remain in the hospital until the Gulf temperatures are high enough to release him.
02/01/2023 Bean was released off Anna Maria Island today!
