This coral species broadcast spawns during certain points of the year. This means that their eggs are projected into the water before being fertilized and settling back down to the seabed.

These corals can form colonies up to 6.6 feet (2 meters) across.

Diet:

Using their polyps, acan lord corals catch organic compounds and small marine organisms from their environment. They also have a special algae—called zooxanthellae– in their tissues that photosynthesize the sun's rays into energy/food.

Range & Habitat:

In the western Indo-Pacific region, Acan lord corals can be found on shallow reefs. This coral species has large polyps and forms in short clusters in reef colonies.

Details:

Acan lord corals range in color from red, orange and purple to blue and green. They have thick, bumpy ridges on their corallites resembling a brain.
