As babies, these fish like to live in cozy seagrass beds and as they mature, they move out onto reefs and rocky areas.

In the Gulf of Mexico, western Atlantic Ocean and Caribbean Sea, butter hamlet inhabit coastal coral reefs and rocky bottom areas.

Details:

Butter hamlet are pale yellow in color with darker grey shadowing at the dorsal (top) side of their body. There are bright iridescent blue rings around their eyes and striping near their head. This hamlet has a dark black spot at the base of their tail.
