These lobsters grow up to 1.5 feet (18 inches) long and can weigh 15 pounds (7 kilograms).

Diet:

Adult Caribbean spiny lobsters eat snails, crabs and clams. Young lobsters feed on plankton floating by in the water column.

Range & Habitat:

These lobsters inhabit coastal bays, estuaries and coral reefs of the Atlantic Ocean, Gulf and Caribbean Sea.

Details:

Caribbean spiny lobsters have reddish-brown shells with occasional darker and lighter spots and spines for protection. They can signal their presence to each other by rubbing their antennae together, making a sound. They hide in crevices during daytime and emerge to feed at night.
