Size:

Female mosquitofish are larger than their male counterparts, growing up to 2.4 inches (6.1 centimeters) long. Males usually reach 1.4 inches (3.6 centimeters) in length.

Mosquitofish eat smaller fish, the eggs of fish and frog species, and insects such as mosquitos.

Range & Habitat:

These freshwater fish can be found in rivers, estuaries, wetlands, lakes and dams in the southwest region of North America.

Details:

Eastern mosquitofish have silvery-blue bodies with a large balloon-like bump near their pectoral fins, accompanied by a small black dot. They also have pointed faces, fanned blue fins and tails.
