Epaulette sharks have great eyesight and sensitive barbs on they end of their snouts, making them extremely aware of their surroundings.

These sharks are small in size, only reaching 27- 35 inches (70-90 centimeters) in length.

Diet:

As bottom feeders, these sharks feed on a variety of aquatic invertebrates and worms.

Range & Habitat:

From the southern coast of New Guinea to the northern coast of Australia, epaulette sharks live near coral reef areas, sandy bottoms and on occasion, tide pools to hunt for food.

Details:

Epaulette Sharks are known for their ability to “walk” on the ocean floor using their pectoral and pelvic fins, which is unique among sharks. They prefer hiding in crevices and caves during the day and are more active at night when they hunt. Their excellent vision helps them navigate and hunt in the low-light environments of coral reefs.
