Range & Habitat:

In the western Atlantic, Gulf of Mexico and Caribbean Sea, foureye butterflyfish can by four in shallow reef communities and seagrass beds.

Details:

The foureye butterflyfish is named for the large black spots near its tail that resemble a second pair of eyes, confusing predators. Its light gray body has dark chevron stripes. At night, its colors fade to blend in. Often seen in pairs, these butterflyfish form monogamous bonds.
