Grey angelfish are usually 1.5 feet (0.5 meters) long, but can grow up to 2 feet (0.61 meters) long. They can weigh up to 4 pounds (1.8 kilograms).
Diet:
Grey angelfish feed primarily on sponges. They are omnivorous, and will also eat algae and a variety of small invertebrates.
Range & Habitat:
Grey angelfish can be found on coral reefs, with juveniles on shallow patch reefs and grassy areas in the western Atlantic and Gulf. They range from New England to southern Brazil.
Details:
Grey angelfish are flat, oval-shaped fish. Adults are mostly grayish-brown while juveniles are black with five yellow stripes. The scales on their bodies lack the yellow edges seen in French angelfish. Grey angelfish support the health of coral reefs by controlling algae growth. They are also highly territorial and defend their feeding grounds against other fish.
