Bat stars are typically vibrant red-orange in color, though they can also be found in shades of white, green, purple and pink. Their slimy coating helps prevent infections, and their spiny texture provides some protection from predators. These sea stars have eyespots at the tips of their arms that can detect light and dark, helping them navigate.
