These hogfish eat sea urchins, brittle stars, mullusks and crustaceans like shrimp.

Range & Habitat:

These fish live in rocky areas and coral reefs throughout the western Atlantic Ocean, Gulf and Caribbean Sea, from Brazil north to Florida, and in some observations of them further north.

Details:

Spanish hogfish are yellow with deep purple-blue on top. They vary in color brightness based on age, sex and environment. They travel in groups of one male and several females. They use their beak-like snouts to root around in the sand and rocks for small invertebrates to eat.
