02/03/2026 The east coast of Florida experienced a cold stun event which resulted in many sea turtle strandings. Due to limited space and continued strandings coming in, these patients were transferred to Mote’s Sea Turtle Rehabilitation Hospital by a coordinated effort with Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC).
They were all given health assessments and provided the necessary fluids and medication if needed.
02/06/2026- 03/30/2026 Unfortunately, due to the severity of their cold stun condition, 4 did not survive. Most have improved and 16 were able to be released back on the east coast.
04/16/2026 Our 4 remaining patients continue to receive the excellent medical care they need. They continue to receive regular health assessments and treatment. They are eating well.
