Final Disposition
Released January 17, 2007 at Vanderbilt Beach, Naples
Photo of turtle on arrival.
10/23 Turtle was found floating near Tiger Key in Collier County, Florida yesterday and was brought to the Sea Turtle Rehabilitation Hospital by Rhonda Bailey of Florida FWC. Turtle has typical symptoms of red tide toxicosis and has been started on treatment. Turtle has an old injury to the rear of its carapace, but the injury is completely healed.
10/28 Turtle is now in shallow water and has begun to eat. Blood results yesterday confirmed red tide toxicosis.
10/30 Turtle quit eating yesterday. Blood tests indicate a high white count, so turtle has been started on antibiotics.
11/1 Turtle has begun to eat again so the antibiotics seem to be doing the job.
11/3 Turtle is now eating very well and swimming well.
11/9 Turtle is gaining weight and doing very well.
11/15 Turtle continues to do very well.
11/28 Turtle is still doing very well. May be releasable in the next month.
12/8 Turtle’s white count has gone up again, so it has been put back onto antibiotics. Doing very well, otherwise.
12/14 White count is almost back to normal.
1/3 White count is normal and turtle is off all medications again. Hoping for a release later this month.
1/8 Turtle is being tagged for release in the near future.
1/12 Turtle has been approved for release next week.
1/17 Turtle was released this afternoon from Vanderbilt Beach north of Naples. Release went very well.
