Final Disposition
Died on April 24, 2011
10/26 Bailey arrived at the hospital today in very poor condition. The turtle is very weak and suffers from many fibropapilloma tumors all over its body. Fluids were given, X-rays taken and blood drawn. Bailey does not show any interest in food.
10/30 Staff performed laser surgery today to remove the tumors on the upper body and eyes. Bailey was dry docked overnight and placed in the water the next day.
11/1 Fluids are being administered daily and Bailey is recovering slowly.
11/28 The turtle has not eaten on its own accord and so we are tube feeding gruel, which is a blended meal of fish, oil and protein. Bailey has started to put on some weight and hopefully will start eating on its own soon.
12/13 Bailey has yet to start eating and continues to be fed through a tube twice a day.
12/30 Bailey has started to slowly eat! Only small amounts of sea grass and a special algae grown here at the aquarium, but this is a good sign.
2/1 Bailey has started to eat everything put in the tank! The turtle will have a second surgery in a few weeks to remove the remaining tumors.
2/25 Bailey has had some papilloma tumor regrowth in several areas so today Bailey had X-rays done to get a better look to see if there is if there has been internal tumor growth. Our vet will be studying the X-rays further to get a more thorough diagnosis.
3/28 Bailey has had a second surgery to remove more of the papilloma tumors. The turtle recovered quickly and started to eat the next day.
4/24 Unfortunately, Bailey did not survive a third surgery for fibropapillomatosis.
